Hiroki Kikuchi is an assistant professor in the Department of Transportation Systems Engineering, College of Science and Technology at Nihon University, Japan. He obtained his PhD from Nihon University, Japan. His research field is transportation engineering and civil engineering. Especially, his research interests include traffic safety, urban planning, shrinking cities, integrated land use/transport modeling, system dynamics, post-COVID-19 policy, and more. Today, he presents the utilization of the “information sharing road safety measure” based on a successful case in Japan as a case study of developing countries of Suphanburi Province, Thailand. |
Social Implementation of Information-Sharing Road Safety Measures: Case Study of Thailand According to the World Health Organization reports, fatalities by road traffic accidents in many countries of Southeast Asia region, especially Thailand, are increasing year by year. However, even if successful road safety measures in Japan are adopted in Thailand, it is uncertain whether it will work well. Thus, it is necessary to clarify the issues and systematize the process for implementing road safety measures in Thailand. Therefore, this study examined the applicability of the "information sharing traffic safety measure," one of the successful road safety measures in Japan, to the social implementation of road safety measures in Thailand as a case study. As a result, to successfully implement the road safety measure based on the "information-sharing traffic safety measure," the process for social implementation of the road safety measures should be consistent and carried out repeatedly. In particular, by clarifying specific issues based on local context in developing countries such as Thailand, the stakeholders, not only government sectors but also local citizens, can share information regarding road safety and select appropriate countermeasures. |
