05.03.2024. The European Parliament adopted on 27 February 2024 its negotiating position on the revision of the Driving Licence Directive: see the text adopted by the Parliament and the summary.
Final rules will be negotiated with member states.
The revision of the directive was proposed by the European Commission in March 2023. In December 2023 EU transport ministers revised the proposal by the European Commission for a 4th Directive on Driving Licences, in order to finalize their position and enter into decisive negotiations with the European Parliament, which is also involved in the legislation.
The parliamentary transport committee adopted its position on the revision of EU driving licence rules in December 2023. In order to have the negotiating mandate, the committee's draft position was put to the vote in the European Parliament's plenary session on 27 February 2024.
