It is with great pleasure that we invite all CIECA Members to participate in the online presentation of the CIECA Medical Fitness to Drive Report, recently finalized by the CIECA Fit to Drive Subgroup 2 “Setting Standards for the Evaluation of Medical Fitness to Drive”. This webinar will present the results of the work of the subgroup, which for the last two years has been discussing the differences between European countries and reviewed the need for changes within different relevant medical areas in Annex III of the European Directive on driving licences (EU Directive 2006/126/EC and Amendments 2009/113/EC, 2014/85/EU, 2016/1106).
The objectives of the CIECA Fit to Drive Subgroup 2, a European working group of experts on medical fitness to drive that worked from February 2018 to August 2020 were to: discuss the differences and similarities between the Fitness to Drive evaluation systems in different EU and European Economic Area (EEA) countries, describe the procedures used, assess medical fitness to drive in each country, learn from each other’s procedures and legal requirements, find best practices and suggestions for changes in Annex III of the EU Directive on driving licences.
In total, between 2019 - August 2020, ten reports were finalized about medical fitness to drive procedures in Europe. The reports are based on comprehensive information gathered in 2018 – 2019 via questionnaires sent to 31 CIECA member countries (EU/EEA + Switzerland), and focus on the following nine categories: General procedures, Dependency, Vision, Cognitive disturbances, Diabetes - group 2 licences, Sleep apnoea and narcolepsy, Mental disorders, Neurodevelopmental conditions and Comorbidity. All reports can be accessed here.
We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all members that have drafted and discussed the reports and also those who provided information from their countries.
